PopsyCakes: Innovation, Growth & Acquisition
Marc Falcone initiated discussions with PopsyCakes’ founder in the company’s early stages, initially serving as an advisor before acquiring a majority ownership stake. During his tenure, he led retail expansion and strategic marketing initiatives, negotiated key retail and marketing partnerships, and secured product placement on FOX News’ The Five, then the network’s highest-rated show.
PopsyCakes became known for its original, eye-catching concept of a “cupcake on a pretzel stick,” an innovative dessert that attracted national attention. Under Falcone’s leadership, the company secured retail distribution and specialty placements with prominent destinations and brands, including HomeGoods, Six Flags and the Mall of America. Specialty food-service placements included Bongo’s Cuban Café at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, associated with international music icon Gloria Estefan and Wahlburgers, the restaurant chain co-founded by actor Mark Wahlberg and his brothers Paul (professional Chef & CEO) and Donny.
PopsyCakes also reached high-profile clientele and organizations, including NBA star Dwyane Wade, Sir Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group, and the Miami Heat, further expanding the brand’s exposure among nationally recognized personalities and audiences. Falcone also created PopsyBites, a smaller-format version of the original PopsyCakes, expanding the brand’s product line and broadening its retail reach. Designed for convenient, on-the-go consumption, PopsyBites were distributed through national convenience-store channels, including gas station convenience stores, opening additional opportunities for the brand to reach consumers nationwide
PopsyCakes was ultimately acquired by Unique Pizza Corp., a publicly traded specialty food manufacturer.
