The Yankles (2009) is an independent comedy-drama that tells the story of a former baseball star who takes on the challenge of coaching a college baseball team at an Orthodox Yeshiva. Produced by DZB Productions, the movie was filmed in Utah, featuring a predominantly Mormon cast alongside stars such as Brian Wimmer, Bart Johnson, and Don Most. Although it premiered at several film festivals, including the Bel-Air Film Festival, the film did not receive a theatrical release.
Distribution efforts were led by Marc Falcone of Trendsetters, who partnered with DZB Productions to seek out opportunities to reach a wider audience. Falcone played a pivotal role in initiating the DVD agreement with Magnolia Home Entertainment, owned by Mark Cuban, following discussions with Jeff Cuban. This strategic move brought the film to a broader audience, culminating in its DVD release in 2012.
Early production received seed backing from notable investors, including Michael Morhaime, the legendary American video game developer and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment, highlighting the project’s appeal across industries.
